19th Ward Traffic

Dear Neighbors:

Residents from all corners of the ward identify traffic concerns as one of our highest quality of life issues. In the past I have worked with neighbors to address these issues on a block or street basis. Often times, I find that what is intended to correct a traffic problem, merely displaces it from one block to another, causing tension and frustration between neighbors.

After a few smaller projects, I turned to a professional traffic engineering firm to develop a ward-wide traffic blueprint to address concerns in a comprehensive manner. Earlier this summer, the engineers held public meetings throughout the community to identify key concerns from our residents. After cataloging these concerns and making their own observations, the engineers are returning at the end of September to make recommendations.

In an effort to keep all residents informed, I have posted the engineers’ recommendations, as well as the information from the previous meetings on this site. Please follow the link to your zone to view information or offer any comments you may have.

Also, please be aware that before any traffic calming measures are implemented, the Department of Transportation and Fire Department must give final approval.

Should you have further questions, please feel free to contact me directly at 773.238.8766.

Sincerely,

Virginia A. Rugai
Alderman – 19th Ward
